Extremely rare and with a very unusual reverse
Lot 2307
Claudius II Gothicus, 268-270. Antoninianus (Bronze, 22 mm, 2.75 g, 6 h), Rome, circa September 268-end 269. IMP C CLAVDIVS AVG Radiate and cuirassed bust of Claudius II to right. Rev. VICTORIA AVG Victory standing facing, head to left, holding wreath in her right hand and palm in her left; in field to left, nine dots within circle. Cohen -. RIC -. RIC V online 168.390. Extremely rare and with a very unusual reverse. Flan crack and with minor deposits, otherwise, very fine.

The weird circle with nine dots in the left field is only known from this reverse die. It likely represents a stylized shield, as it appears in the hands of a flying Victory on coins of Trajan and Nero.
